MX (Mail Exchange) records determine where emails sent to your domain should be delivered. If you’re using a third-party email provider like Google Workspace, Zoho Mail, or Microsoft 365, or need to troubleshoot delivery issues, you may need to update your MX records.
This guide walks you through how to view, add, or edit MX records in cPanel.
Step 1: Log in to cPanel
You can access cPanel by:
-
Logging into your adxhost Client Area at https://adxhost.com/billing
-
Navigating to Services → My Services
-
Selecting your hosting plan and clicking Login to cPanel
Or go directly to:
https://yourdomain.com/cpanel
Step 2: Open the Zone Editor
-
In the cPanel dashboard, scroll down to the Domains section
-
Click on Zone Editor
You’ll see a list of your domains.
-
Find your domain and click Manage
Step 3: Filter for MX Records
-
Use the search bar at the top to type MX
-
This will display all existing MX records for your domain
Step 4: Edit or Delete Existing MX Records
-
To edit an existing MX record, click Edit next to the record
-
Update the Priority and Destination (Mail Server) as needed
-
Click Save Record
To remove an old or incorrect record, click Delete
Step 5: Add a New MX Record
-
Click the Add Record button
-
Choose Add MX Record
-
Fill in the following fields:
-
Priority: Lower numbers have higher priority (e.g. 10, 20)
-
Destination: The mail server address (e.g. mx.zoho.com, ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM)
-
-
Click Add Record
Step 6: Set the Correct Email Routing
Still in cPanel:
-
Return to the main dashboard
-
Go to Email Routing under the Email section
-
Select your domain and choose the appropriate option:
-
Remote Mail Exchanger: If using a third-party provider (e.g. Gmail)
-
Local Mail Exchanger: If using adxhost email hosting
-
-
Click Change
Notes
-
Changes to MX records may take up to 1–4 hours to propagate (in some cases up to 24 hours)
-
Double-check that the destination mail servers are correct
-
If using third-party email (e.g. Google Workspace), be sure to delete any old MX records
